How to get rid of grubs in your lawn? Grub Damage!

Grubs can cause all sorts of damage and ruin a nice lawn. You may have seen the bugs themselves or had dead spots in your lawn or areas of grass that can be lifted up. Either way if you don’t kill the grubs they will continue to wreak havoc on your grass.

Its different because Duocide Insect Control on DG Pro is a combination of Bifenthrin (Talstar ) and Carbaryl (Sevin) insecticides. It is a broad spectrum insecticide for BOTH preventative and curative control of surface and sub-surface feeding insects (over and under), above and below the surface.

Below are examples of different types of damage you might see from grubs.

How to get rid of ants in your house like a professional but doing it yourself

This is the time of year that ants start to get active and they are mostly looking for food. This is why we get them in our houses, apartments, trailers. Anywhere you like the ants want in. Over the years I tried tons of different ant cups, sprays and other things with NO success. They all sort of worked, maybe, but the ant problem remained.

When you call a professional it’s not like it was 20 years ago. You would pay $75 and the ant issue would be over. Most companies want to put you on a “program” charging you $40-100 per month! But they advertise that you can have “unlimited callbacks” Who cares? You don’t need this and can solve many problems like ants yourself at home for less than the cost of 1 VIST!

If you want to get rid of ants in your house watch my video on how to use the best product on the market. The best part is you don’t spray it, its not a messy powder or granule. It’s a gel with an included applicator. Just put it down, the ants eat it and die. You have heard this before, except this product ADVION has a patent because it’s different and ants actually eat it.

You can order it right here, and its incredible that it is so inexpensive and ready top use. But you want it because it actually works!

Domyown is great to work with, ships same or next day. Amazon has been shipping sometimes in a week and it’s taking a long time to get orders. If you have ants you don’t want to wait so please give it a try or watch my video to see it in action.

How to stop your pump sprayer from breaking & make it last!

Feel like your lawn sprayer breaks every season?

Most lawn sprayer break each year because people store chemicals, or other solutions in them. You are NOT supposed to store anything in your sprayer for more than 24 hours. I am asked this question a lot on my videos. My recommendation & most manufacturers is that your sprayer is a tool to apply, not store products.

When done you should always rinse out your sprayer 3 times. This means fill it once, dump the water out, fill it again and dump it 2 more times. You should also run some of the water through the line and handle,.

Yes this is a bit of a pain and it takes a few minutes but doing this will ensure your sprayer will probably last for many many years. I have a special video on cleaning your sprayer which should be done at least once a year it’s easy and if you have bought a good sprayer like Sprayers plug or a Birchmier, you want to maintain your investment and keep it working when you need it.

Can you use dish soap as a surfactant for Tenacity & other lawn herbicides?

This is a question I am asked very regularly. The short answer is yes you can but only if you want mediocre to poor results. Here’s why:

Non-ionic surfactants are one of the most popular type of surfactants that weed killers, herbicides and other lawn chemicals call for. These products are more than just the “glue” that your controls need to make them effective they have another purpose. They all are the vehicle that allows the critical connection and transfer of the product you apply to the grass blade or leaf of the plant.

Soap is fine if you are doing a pure organic/DIY solution but for high tech weed controls you will be directly going against the product label that calls specifically for non-ionic surfactants. These surfactants are cheap, the weed controls are the more expensive part, so why cheap out on such a minor cost?

I am all for saving money but not for inferior results. NONE of the weed control companies make these surfactants, they are only specified because they are NECESSARY.

It’s up to you, but I would keep the dish soap for cleaning dishes and use what is specified for the best weed control results you can get.

Spring is here...Finally!

New England is a strange place when it comes to weather and this year has been no exception. We hit 70 degrees back in December and yet now in April we are still feeling cold temps down to the low 30s but days are getting warmer and here are some of things I am doing at home to help force the warm weather here a little earlier.

  1. I took advantage of some decent weather and applied both Humid Acid & Fertilizer to get things going

  2. It’s early and I am seeing a lot of yellow grass in my lawn and neighborhood. This is probably from extreme cold this winter early on. I have started raking and dethached my lawn which helps this a lot and gets the debris out. It also gets me in the lawn working which I enjoy a lot.

  3. I have also mowed a couple of times now, this really isn’t for the grass growth but more to clan it up. I like to cut this time of year VERY low, even to 1.5” inches. This to get up any leaves and debris. I will switch to cutting higher very soon.

Lots more to do getting the yard ready for the season but this is where I am at today. Looking forward to sharing this seasons projects with you on the Silver Cymbal YouTube Channel of course!
