Ecology & ENVIROMENTAL CONCERNS

Sometimes I receive comments from people concerned about the environment & the potential damage that we seem to be doing keeping our lawns & landscape looking the way we want. Let me explain more how I feel that the right products used the correct way (and minimally) can allow you to have a great space and enjoy nature at the same time.

Everything I use has been carefully selected with the best safety records to protect my kids, me & my pets. Additionally, I care greatly about the wildlife, insects & creatures around us. Combine good products & sensible use and you can enjoy your home in balance with nature. Many of my videos offer completely natural & non-chemical solutions to homeowners. Following my methods will allow you to use less products each year as you get your landscaping & lawn where you want it to be.

I do not use or recommend the product glyphospate used in Monsanto’s Round Up products that has received so much negative press. I also choose many natural and organic products and methods to minimize chemical use. The products I use are some of the best alternatives to glyphosates on the market today.

On my land we enjoy thousands of honey bees, birds, rare amphibians including tree frogs and more than 5 varieties of turtles, toads, yellow spotted salamanders, turkeys, deer & even American minks. I have seen no negative effects from any of my carefully selected and minimally applied products to any of these welcome creatures.

Last year we had so many honey bees that we needed a solution to keep them away from our pool & this simple solution, bee bath (mask) served the purpose and kept them and us happy. I filled it every day with the water the bees seemed to never get enough of.

Some pest control is a necessary way of life for us though. We have ticks with Lyme disease heavy concentrations in Massachusetts as well as Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) disease carried by mosquitoes these are real concerns. I make the choice to use products that are legal and safe to protect my family. I have shown in several videos that I spray the perimeter of my property to minimize the product use & still have effectiveness.

I use the minimum amount of all products to achieve a good (not a perfect) effect. I highly recommend that you balance a yard that meets your family’s need without turning it into an obsession for perfection. The difference can often be very costly & wasteful of resources. Find a balance that works for your budget, safety and enjoy a great space.
